Tacos Wey & Grill

Located on 9040 Gravois Rd, Affton, Tacos Wey & Grill is a small family owned Mexican Restaurants that brings their own unique takes on the classic Mexican dishes. After hearing that their classic birria tacos were to DIE for by a friend who goes here regularly, I knew I had to check it out. Although it is quite small in the inside, Tacos Wey & Grill provides a large and energetic atmosphere to the place with its upbeat Hispanic tunes and its decorations. They were able to fit so many items to fill in the small, empty space, turning the place into its own art piece. I love how they reused Corona bottles as decorations. The service there was also very friendly and helped recommend me their personal choice. They recommended any items that had birria in it, so I decided to take their recommendation and combine it with my friends’ recommendation of getting birria tacos. I ordered the (3) Quesabirria plate and consommé entrée as well as an order of Pina Colada and strawberry fresa.

I want to start off with the drinks and how refreshing they were. For the strawberry fresa, I could really tell that they used real strawberries and not just artificial syrup. It was sweet but not overly sweet, just the right amount. The Pina Colada was good as well, but for this one, I feel like having a little more sweetness would be better, maybe a touch more of coconut cream. For the main entrée, I enjoyed both the Quesabirria tacos and consommé thoroughly, especially when you dip the taco into the consommé. I do feel like a little more seasoning for the tacos would be great, as I could mostly only taste the cheese and not the biria itself. The red and green hot sauces were a great addition to the meal however, adding more spice and flavor into the tacos. The consomme itself was also rich in flavor with the onions and cilantro adding freshness into the soup. The total price for the dish was $13.50. I’m not sure how fair the price is compared to the amount of food I’m getting, but $4 per taco does lean on the pricier side when it comes to tacos, however, I do understand that it comes with the consome as well. Overall, this place was a great visit with friendly customer service and a great lively setting. I would definitely go back and try the other dishes on their menu, and I hope you guys too!
