Lona’s Lil Eats is located on a cozy corner on 2199 California Ave in the Fox Park neighborhood. It specializes in Asian cuisine, being most known for its Giant Rice Paper Wrap, which they use as their “bread and butter” for their wraps. We found this spot as we were looking for a spot that closes a little later, as we were both on a time crunch and couldn’t eat till later in the evening. Lona’s Lil Eats has both inside and outside dining available, each with their own welcoming experience. Although we didn’t eat outside, the place provided comfortable chairs and neat umbrellas to keep customers out of the sweltering sun. The inside was in its own different world. Pictures and awards hung across the walls and the overall atmosphere felt very relaxed and a place that we could vibe with. The servers there were very friendly and the person who was talked to to order was very inclusive. He not only asked about our dietary restrictions but also gave us an overview of the most popular picks. From the most-rated entrees, we eventually ordered the home-made dumplings for our appetizer and for our main dishes, we got the Lemongrass Turkey Wrap and the Smoked Turkey Wraps. Even though they were relatively busy, the food was brought out pretty quickly which was impressive. The dumplings paired with its signature chili oil soy-sauce was a match made in heaven. The dumpling was fresh off the grills so it was still really crispy, but the inside was bursting with flavors.

For the wraps, I love how instead of the traditional tortilla that is used for most wraps, they replaced it with its underrated (and better) counterpart, rice paper. The rice paper added so much more texture and it wasn’t as messy as a tortilla wrap would be. In my fair share of wraps, I would consistently have the problem of my wrap falling and breaking apart because the tortilla wasn’t strong enough to hold all of the content. Not only does the rice paper add stability, but I’m also a big fan of the chewy texture it gives the dish. For my Smoked Brisket Wrap itself, however, there were some bites where I feel like all I could taste is salt due to the very seasoned rice. The brisket itself was very tender and flavorful however. The vegetables as well felt fresh and the entire dish itself didn’t feel too overly heavy with grease or fat. The fattiness of the brisket and the fresh vegetables paired very well together and overall, I enjoyed my meal. My friend who had the Lemon Grass Turkey seemed to be having the time of his life, as he literally ate the whole wrap in under 3 minutes. The sides that were provided for both of the wraps were also fantastic. I loved the stir-fried rice and how much dryer it was than other places where their fried rice can be way to greasy. The stir-fried noodles were also an excellent pairing with the wraps as well, being well seasoned. Lona’s Lil Eats is the place if your looking for something not too heavy, but still very savory. If your around the Fox Park neighborhood, this is a must-try spot!
